Did you know Sacajawea was only a teenager when she helped Lewis and Clark explore the Louisiana Territory? She traveled thousands of miles with a nursing baby, acting as a peace symbol and interpreter. Even though she was a hero of the trip, she was never paid for her work! We love sharing these powerful stories at the museum. You can actually see her image on the U.S. golden dollar and learn more about her incredible journey in our exhibits. There is even a big mystery about her—did she pass away at age 24, or live to be 96? Come visit us and dive into the life of one of America’s most famous explorers. History is full of surprises!
