RockBuzz Rockford's Reel
A thrift store with a mission that goes way beyond shopping. šļøā¤ļø This week's Saturday Business Highlight takes us to Carpenter's Corner Thrift Store at 2512 S. Alpine Rd. in Rockford, IL. But to understand the mission behind Carpenter's Place, we have to go back to June 2000, when Al and Cathy Barsema founded the organization. Al knew firsthand what it was like to struggle with addiction and homelessness. After spending eight years rebuilding his own life and career with the help of his family, he wanted to create a place where others could have that same opportunity. That dream became Carpenter's Place, a nonprofit dedicated to helping people experiencing homelessness rebuild their lives. Today, its center at 1149 Railroad Avenue in Rockford offers much more than a place to get off the streets. People can access showers, laundry facilities, storage for personal belongings, classrooms, an art room, and other essential resources. The organization also provides case management and connections to services that help people work toward stability and rebuilding their lives. What started with two founders has grown into an organization serving people throughout our community. So while you're out looking for your next thrift store find, remember there's a much bigger mission behind the Carpenter's Place name. ā¤ļø š Carpenter's Corner Thrift Store 2512 S.
