The Water Man's Post
Testing the Waters…….Ferrous vs. Ferric Iron 💧 Have you ever watched a glass of water turn color after sitting out, or noticed stubborn rust stains in your sink? When we test your water right on your kitchen counter, we're looking to see exactly what's hiding in your supply. Iron typically shows up in two different forms, and the testing process helps us tell them apart so we can recommend the right treatment for your home's plumbing. Ferrous Iron (Dissolved or "Clear" Iron)The water comes out of the tap completely clear, but changes color as it oxidizes when exposed to the air. This is the iron that leaves stubborn red-orange stains on sinks, fixtures, and laundry. Ferric Iron (Undissolved or "Red" Iron) The water comes out of the tap already discolored, cloudy, or reddish-orange. The oxidation reaction has already happened underground or in the pipes before it reaches your glass. We don't believe in guessing when it comes to your water. By testing your sample on-site, we can immediately identify the type of iron and mineral levels present, ensuring you get the exact equipment you need to keep your pipes flowing clean.
