On Friday, we were out in Marengo, IL tackling a stubborn water issue before heading over to our booth at the Buchanan St. Strolls. Then, instead of kicking back on Saturday afternoon, we were down in Plano, Illinois saving another basement from a water catastrophe. The common denominator for both jobs? Both homeowners were relying on old Sears Kenmore cabinet-style softeners that were well over 10 years old. 10+ years is a long run for a retail unit, but time eventually wins. Why They Had to Go: The Marengo Unit: The cabinet was completely filled with standing brine water. The control valve was choked out with heavy rust. Even after we stripped down the injector assembly and meticulously cleaned the venturi throat, the internal mechanics were just too far gone to draw water.
