RockBuzz Stateline's Reel

If you’re looking for a spot in Beloit that nails the "modern industrial" vibe while still feeling like a cozy neighborhood hangout, you’ve got to check out G5 Brewing Company. I recently stopped in for a mid-week visit, and I have to say, the location itself is half the draw. It sits right on top of a hill on Gateway Boulevard, giving you some of the best sunset views in the city if you snag a seat by the windows or out on their huge patio. When you walk in, the first thing you notice is the design. It’s got this cool mix of tumbled red brick—which nods to Beloit’s industrial history—and rustic wood that feels like a mountain lodge. The "G" in G5 actually stands for the Gunderson family who started it, and you can tell they put a lot of heart into the details. It’s high-ceilinged and open, but sitting at the big island bar feels comfortable and personal. I went straight for a glass of Moon Burn. If you like a "night IPA," this is the one. It’s a hazy, juicy Pale Ale that’s brewed right there in-house. Even though it’s got those big hop flavors, it’s smooth enough to sit on for a while. That’s my favorite kind of beer—the one you can actually enjoy slowly while catching up with a friend. Most people talk about their pizza because it’s honestly phenomenal (and they even have great gluten-free options), but I decided to branch out this time. I ordered the Wisconsin Cheese Curds with a side of their chipotle ranch. Let me tell you: these are the real deal. They came out so hot the steam was still rolling off them. They were perfectly golden brown, and the portion was so big I actually couldn't finish the whole basket. The chipotle ranch gives it just enough of a kick without being too spicy. Whether you’re a craft beer nerd or just looking for a solid meal, G5 is a must-visit in the Stateline area. They’ve got about 13 different beers on tap at any time, plus a full bar if beer isn't your thing. Next time you're near the Wisconsin-Illinois line, head up the hill and grab a spot at the bar. Grab a Moon Burn, definitely get the curds, and just soak in the view. You won’t regret it!
